There was I this morning thinking about my holiday towel! Shirley Valentine had rock remember; I have my towel. I bought my towel on holiday in Tenerife in 1987 - before some of you reading this were even born, but warning ........ Never ever remind me of that fact or it will be the end of a beautiful friendship. Towel has been with me, on every holiday since. It has lasted longer than any relationship I have ever had and could be argued has been more reliable. I guess it's not really a towel now, more of a thin, flat thing that resembles a towel lol. It's funny how some very insignificant things remain with us for such a long while; whilst more precious things just up and leave us! Let's here it for my lovely beach towel, may long it travel with me.
So first stop this morning was to buy some fruit. I went to a different place this morning. The display do fruit was out of this world. If only we could buy this as cheap as it is here.
These above are delicious, I think they are dragon fruit I bought some for my lunch and the monks had some oranges, star fruit and a pineapple. The monk was pleased to see me and again I sat why he I guess gave thanks for the offering. Had said a lot more today, it was very moving. We had a bit of a chat then I went to see the flea ridden puppies who were pleased to see me.
Then I went to the school. I parked Betsey Mae up and walked into the school and was greeted by one of the teachers in uniform. I said hello in Thai and asked if I could look around. Her face just beemed, she was so pleased that I wanted to look at her school. She asked if I was a teacher. To be honest it was easier to say yes I am of 15 year olds, which in a way that is what I am, than to try to explain what I actually do. The children were in three different classrooms: nursery, 5-7 then 8-11 and two teachers.
I went at first into the 5-7 year olds and the teacher explained who I was and every child said hello I am ..... To which I replied hello ....... I think my Thai must be pretty awful as there was a lot if giggling.I then went into the older children's class room and the lesson was maths - I hate maths. I did some sums with them and walked round checking their answers lol they loved it. They keep wanting to touch me, it really was quite sweet.
Every child had a uniform. They were, some of them, tatty but clean. It was apparent that every child had manners and did what the teacher told them. They had good resources but they were using pencils that we would just throw away. There were computers but you could tell that it was bits of one and bits of another - but hey it was a computer. But I can't tell you enough the love and happiness in those two classrooms. The children were just so pleased that I had come to see their school.
Then I went to the nursery lol lol. It was utter madness lol. The little ones just run to me, all wanting a hug. I sat and did some play dough with them. Then lol I started singing the wheels on the bus lol and they were all moving their hands, huge smiles. I also sang wind the bobbin up, they liked that one. It was such a delight, it's something I will hold in my heart.
The nursery class of Ko Mak school.
I went to say thank you and my goodbyes to the teacher, she was still smiling. I decided to give the school a donation. It means no Thai massages for me, but it is worth it. They made my morning so very, very special, chikdren everywhere are the same, thy have that wonder about them, they are curious. Ko Mak school will always have a place in my heart.
Oh I almost forgot. When I was buying fruit this morning there was the most adorable baby in a homemade crib. It was so basic; no Mothercare! But it did the trick.
